Latin Roots

What Does “Academy” Mean?

The word academy comes from the Latin Academia, which referred to the school founded by Plato in ancient Athens. It was a place of inquiry, dialogue, and the pursuit of wisdom — not merely the transfer of information.

And Creo is Latin for “I create” — a reflection of our belief that every student is made in the image of a creative God, and education should awaken and cultivate that creative capacity.

At Creo Classical Academy, we aspire to that same spirit of genuine inquiry. Our curriculum is designed not merely to fill students with facts, but to form them as thinkers, creators, and people of character — equipped to understand and engage the world with wisdom, grace, and conviction.

Our Philosophy

Learning Through Doing

Classical education at Creo is not passive. We believe in kinetic learning — the idea that students learn best when they are actively engaged: building, creating, debating, narrating, and applying what they have learned.

Our teachers employ the Socratic method — asking probing questions rather than simply delivering answers. This develops students' ability to think for themselves, reason through complexity, and articulate their conclusions clearly.

Charlotte Mason's influence is evident in our use of living books — rich, well-written narratives instead of dry textbooks — alongside nature study, narration, and the cultivation of good habits and attention.

The Cycle

History, Geography & Science Rotation

History, Geography, and Science are taught in a 4-year chronological cycle, ensuring that students encounter the full sweep of human history and scientific discovery over their years at Creo.

Year 1
Ancient Civilizations
Year 2
Medieval & Renaissance
Year 3
Early Modern World
Year 4
Modern & American

Why cycles? The cyclical approach means students at different grade levels study the same period of history simultaneously, allowing for rich family-dinner conversations and multi-age classroom discussions. Each pass through the cycle goes deeper as students mature.

Grammar Phase · Kindergarten through 5th Grade

Language Arts

Gr K–5

Phonics, reading, handwriting, spelling, grammar, and composition. We use a structured literacy approach combined with living books and narration to build strong readers and confident writers.

Mathematics

Gr K–5

Foundational arithmetic through pre-algebra. Emphasis on conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency. We use a mastery-based approach with hands-on manipulatives in the early years.

History & Geography

Gr K–5

We study history in a 4-year chronological cycle beginning with Ancient Civilizations. Students encounter primary sources, maps, timelines, and living books that bring history to life.

Science

Gr K–5

Nature study inspired by Charlotte Mason — observation journals, nature walks, and hands-on experiments. Topics rotate through earth science, life science, and physical science on a 3-year cycle.

Fine Arts

Gr K–5

Drawing, painting, music appreciation, hymn study, and composer study. We believe the arts are not an add-on but a core part of a complete classical education.

Latin

Gr 3–5

Introduction to Latin vocabulary and grammar beginning in the elementary years. Latin study builds vocabulary, strengthens grammar understanding, and provides a foundation for future language study.

Bible & Worldview

Gr K–5

Scripture memory, Bible stories, and age-appropriate theological discussions. We seek to integrate a biblical worldview into every subject, not just Bible class.
